Meerut Airport News: In a major boost to the city’s infrastructure and regional connectivity, the state government is preparing to fly 72-seater aircraft by expanding the airstrip of Meerut. The airstrip has been registered in the name of Civil Aviation. Earlier, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) chairman sought expansion of the air strip, demanding 96.14 acres of land for the airport operations. The state government made 75 acres of land available for the first phase. The preparations are underway to fly a 72-seater aircraft from Meerut’s airstrip in the first phase.
72-Seater Aircraft To Fly From Meerut: All You Need To Know
- The airstrip in Meerut is built on 18.82 hectares of land. The administration has reserved an additional 34.72 hectares of land for the airport. The runway is 1,470 metres in length at present.
- In May, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman, Vipin Kumar, wrote a letter to the state government demanding 96.14 acres of land to be made available for the first phase. He also demanded the removal of electricity lines and other obstructions shown in the master plan.
- In addition to this, the AAI chairman also demanded 300 acres of land for the second phase and 200 acres of land for the third phase of the airport.
- Earlier, the administration faced problems carrying out airport operations on the land as it was not registered in their name. Now, the land has been registered in the name of Civil Aviation, Jagran.com reported.
- Currently, 75 acres of land have been acquired from the farmers and are in possession of AAI. The officials have stated that they are planning to fly 72-seater aircraft from the airstrip in Meerut.
- For the second and third phases, land acquisition work is underway. The land is registered in the names of several farmers, Meerut Development Authority, Municipal Corporation, Forest Department, and Regional Cooperative Dairy Department. Consent letters are being taken from the farmers, and a plan is underway to acquire the land from the administration.
