As Meerut continues its rapid development within the NCR, finding a theme park or a well-maintained city forest has been a challenge. While places like Gandhi Bagh and Tapovan come to mind, the city has long lacked a dedicated theme park, and Sanjay Van has failed to serve as a proper urban forest due to its deteriorating condition.
The Meerut Development Authority (MEDA) has developed two major recreational spaces in Vedvyaspuri—a beautifully landscaped city forest named Shiv Shakti Van and an innovative theme park called Kranti Dhara Memorial Park. While Shiv Shakti Van will soon be open to the public, Kranti Dhara Park is set to launch in a month.
The Kranti Dhara Memorial Park is being developed with the theme of the First War of Independence and is nearing completion. A variety of engaging features are being added, including:
Illuminated Glass Flowers – Electrically lit glass flowers will add a magical touch to the park’s ambiance.
Boating Facility – A water body is being filled and cleaned, making way for a boating experience.
Sculptures of Revolutionaries – Statues of historical figures, including women revolutionaries represented as Durga, have been installed.
Open-Air Theatre – A new amphitheater will provide a venue for cultural programs.
Musical Fountain & Special Lighting – The fountain will be upgraded with musical features, and the entire park will be adorned with colorful lighting.
Key Attractions of Kranti Dhara Park:
Martyr Path
Prerna Stambh (Inspiration Pillar)
Wall of Valour (Dedicated to martyred warriors)
Open-Air Theatre
Shanti Upvan (Peace Garden)
Cafeteria
Project Details:
Total Area: 15.25 acres
Initial Development (2013-14): Built as a Zonal Park
Redevelopment Cost: Rs 14.50 crore (from MEDA’s infrastructure fund)
Once open, Kranti Dhara Park is expected to become a top recreational spot for families and a prime location for social media enthusiasts who enjoy making reels.
Meerut’s new Shiv Shakti Van offers a green escape from city life. Designed to encourage wellness and relaxation, this city forest will provide visitors with a peaceful environment to enjoy nature.
Key features include:
Watchtower (Scaffolding) – Visitors can climb the watchtower to enjoy fresh air and a panoramic view of the forest.
Pergolas for Meditation & Yoga – Three pergolas (one circular and two rectangular) are being built, providing shaded spaces for relaxation and group discussions.
Walking & Running Tracks – These tracks offer a space for jogging and fresh air therapy.
Greenery Grown Using Miyawaki Method – Dense plantations have been developed for an immersive forest experience.
Project Details:
Total Area: 11,612 square meters
Infrastructure: Grand entrance, benches, drinking water, and footpaths
Focus Areas: Yoga, pranayama, and peaceful retreats
Shiv Shakti Van will offer a refreshing environment for fitness enthusiasts, meditation lovers, and families seeking a tranquil outdoor experience.
With Kranti Dhara Park and Shiv Shakti Van, Meerut is set to redefine its urban landscape, providing vibrant recreational spaces for all age groups. Whether it’s historical tribute or natural serenity, these new parks promise to become cherished landmarks in the city.
