The Bijli Bamba Bypass, a crucial link connecting Hapur Road to Delhi Road, has notoriously earned the moniker ‘Jam Road’ due to persistent and severe traffic congestion. Commuters are forced to crawl through traffic daily, with evening hours witnessing snarls that stretch for several kilometres.
Wednesday’s Chaos At Jurranpur Phatak
The situation worsened on Wednesday afternoon when long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the Jurranpur Phatak (railway crossing).
Gridlock: Vehicles were stuck for hours, moving at a snail's pace. Frustrated drivers were seen arguing with one another amidst the chaos.
Intervention: The gridlock was only resolved after commuters contacted senior officials. Following the alert, a police team arrived at the spot and managed the traffic by allowing vehicles to pass one by one. It took approximately 40 minutes to restore normal traffic flow.
Systemic Failure Despite Deployment
The 7.5-km stretch of the bypass falls under the jurisdiction of three different police stations. Additionally, traffic police personnel are deployed at key points, including Shopprix Mall, Jurranpur Phatak and Hapur Road.
Lack of Coordination: Despite the heavy deployment, the road remains congested. Reports indicate that while traffic police struggle to manage the flow, personnel from the three local police stations are often absent from traffic management duties.

Failed Plans: SP Traffic Raghavendra Mishra has reportedly implemented several plans to alleviate congestion on this route, but none have yielded successful results so far.
Official Statement
Addressing the issue, SP Traffic Raghavendra Mishra acknowledged the heavy volume of vehicles. "Due to the high volume of traffic on the Bijli Bamba Bypass, jam-like situations arise once or twice a day. Traffic police are stationed near the Jurranpur Phatak, and the team immediately manages the situation to ensure vehicles can pass," he stated.
