To ensure smooth vehicular movement during the festive season, the Meerut traffic police have implemented a two-shift duty system and strengthened traffic arrangements across the city ahead of Diwali.
According to officials, 11 major congestion points have been identified where Traffic Sub-Inspectors (TSIs) have been assigned to manage the flow of vehicles. The number of personnel has been increased at four of these key locations.

Following the implementation of the route diversion plan, traffic pressure surged on Thursday, coinciding with heavy footfall in city markets. As a result, traffic personnel were deployed outside marketplaces from early morning. Currently, police are stationed at more than 62 points across the city.
Areas facing the most severe congestion include Begum Pul Chauraha, Akash Ganga Saree Corner, Bachcha Park Chauraha, Sotiganj Chauraha, Co-operative Chauraha, Zero Mile, Lalkurti Penth area, Shiv Chowk Abu Lane, Kanha Plaza Maliyana Pul, Hanuman Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and the Pinky Chhole Bhature area.
Traffic Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh said that TSIs have been deployed at these busy junctions and that the enhanced traffic arrangements will remain in effect until October 23 to ensure a smooth and safe Diwali for commuters.
