The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to develop a new elevated corridor along the Yamuna embankment, connecting Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. The project is expected to decongest the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and provide direct connectivity to the Noida International Airport, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said at an event held near the Noida International Airport in Jewar.
The proposal put forward by Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma was acknowledged by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari during a public event near the upcoming airport. Gadkari affirmed that the central government is willing to consider the plan and assured that funding would not be an issue. He also noted that projects worth Rs 1.2 lakh crore are currently in progress across Delhi-NCR, with over Rs 60,000 crore worth of work already completed.
“Right now, we are executing projects worth Rs 1.2 lakh crore in Delhi-NCR. We have already completed work worth Rs 60,000 crore, and today Mahesh ji shared his suggestions, which we will consider. We have no shortage of funds,” Gadkari said.
Key Areas Connects Noida-Greater Noida Expressway
With nearly five lakh vehicles using the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway daily, including around two lakh entering with DND, Chilla Border, Kalindi Kunj, and sectors like 15, 16, 18, and 37, the current infrastructure is under significant strain. The proposed corridor aims to serve as a crucial bypass, enhancing travel efficiency while helping reduce vehicular emissions.
The Noida Authority granted in-principle approval for the project in March. Emphasising the urgency of an alternative route, Authority CEO Lokesh M cited rapid urban growth, expanding real estate, and the expected operational launch of the airport later this year. Officials believe the proposed corridor will support India’s net-zero goals and contribute to a more sustainable, inclusive, and balanced urban development framework for the region.
If implemented, the embankment road could become a model for environmentally conscious infrastructure, addressing mobility needs while aligning with climate priorities. The project underscores Noida’s growing focus on building resilient, future-ready transport systems without compromising environmental commitments.
