The Uttar Pradesh Police busted a sex racket operating under the guise of spa centres in Prayagraj, officials said on Saturday. During the raid conducted on late Friday night, police arrested 20 individuals, including a Ugandan woman for their alleged involvement in the prostitution. The operation involved a coordinated raid by the Civil Lines and Mahila Thana police teams, following a tip-off about illicit activities at several spa centres located in P-Square Mall near the Civil Lines bus stand.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Deepak Bhukar stated that the targeted spas included Junction Spa Centre, New Green Spa Centre, Paradise Spa Centre and Waves Spa Centre. During the raids, police found several men and women in compromising situations, with one of the women being identified as a Ugandan national involved in immoral acts.

"During the raid, some women and men were found in objectionable conditions, in which a foreign woman of Ugandan origin was also found involved in immoral acts. Thirteen women and seven men were arrested on the spot," the senior official said.

The operation revealed that the spa centres were conducting illicit activities for some time. The girls, when questioned, disclosed that they were residents of various regions including Prayagraj, Kushinagar, Varanasi and Delhi. Among those arrested, two individuals identified themselves as managers of the spa centres, while others gave vague responses.

During the raid, the police recovered 20 mobile phones, sex-stimulating drugs and Rs 8,400 in cash. The mobile numbers provided by the managers and the girls for the spa owners were found to be switched off. 

Deepak Bhukar stated that a case has been registered under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, and an investigation is underway. Police are also verifying the passport and visa details of the Ugandan woman involved, the senior official said.
