A tense situation unfolded in the Sector-51 market after local traders accused Noida Authority officials of harassment and misconduct during an inspection drive. The conflict arose when officials issued fines (challans) worth thousands of rupees to shopkeepers for litter found on the road outside their establishments.

Allegations Of Misconduct

According to the traders, the enforcement drive took an ugly turn when Gaurav Bansal, an officer from the Public Health Department, allegedly misbehaved with them.

The Incident: When a trader, Raj Garg, protested against the penalties and the officer's conduct, Bansal allegedly snatched Garg's mobile phone and threw it onto the road.

Police Conduct: Traders also alleged that a female police officer present at the scene displayed inappropriate behavior during the altercation.

Protests And Trade Association Intervention

Upon receiving information about the commotion, leaders from the state trade associationrushed to the spot. Initial attempts by the leaders to reason with the officials were reportedly ignored, leading to an escalation of tensions.

A large crowd gathered in the market as traders staged a protest, shouting slogans against the Noida Authority.

Leaders Condemn "Brutality"

Vikas Jain (State President, Vyapar Mandal) and Manish Sharma (State Minister) strongly condemned the incident, stating that brutality against the business community will not be tolerated.

"Traders are being consistently harassed, sometimes in the name of parking, sometimes for encroachment, and now for litter. This pattern of targeting shopkeepers is unacceptable." — Statement by Trade Association Leaders
