To provide relief from rising pollution, authorities identify pollution hotspots each year so targeted action can be taken in the worst-affected areas. However, despite continuous monitoring, the number of hotspots in Ghaziabad has increased this year.
The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has identified eight hotspots in its latest survey, up from six last year. Notably, four locations-Rajnagar Extension, Loni, Bhopura-Delhi Border and Siddhartha Vihar-remain on the list for the third consecutive year, indicating that pollution sources in these areas remain unaddressed.
Last year, Sahibabad, Rajnagar Extension, Loni, Bhopura-Delhi Border, Siddhartha Vihar and Vasundhara were identified as hotspots. This year, Lalkuan, Mohannagar, Kanawani Pusta Road, and Vijay Nagar–South Side GT Road have been newly added to the list. Officials admit that although responsibilities were assigned to various departments, the core issues-dust from roads, heavy traffic, construction activities, and industrial emissions-continue to contribute to toxic air.
Seven of the eight hotspots are severely affected by traffic congestion and dust pollution, making vehicular emissions one of the biggest contributors to poor air quality.
Even though Sahibabad and Vasundhara have been removed from the hotspot list this year, residents continue to face high pollution due to the open sale of construction materials, road dust, and ongoing construction in violation of norms.

2. Rajnagar Extension – Heavy traffic, construction work, dust
