Even as nine months have passed since lawyer Umesh Pal was murdered, the police are yet to ascertain the whereabouts of six key accused in the case, which includes slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen.

Notably, Umesh Pal, a prime witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, was killed on Feb 24 outside his residence in the Sulemsarai area under the limits of Dhoomanganj police station.

Police however claim to have gunned down four accused, including Asad (son of Atiq Ahmed), Gulam (shooter), Usman alias Vijay (shooter) and Arbaaz in separate encounters. Six more accused in the case are still at large, including Sabir, Guddu Muslim, Arman, Shaista Parveen, Jainav and Ayesha Noori.

Moreover, a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh was announced on slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen by police. Guddu Muslim, Arman and Sabir also carry a Rs 5 lakh cash reward each on their heads.

As per senior officials involved in the probe, the accused are untraceable as they were not using mobile phones. They said that electronic surveillance was being maintained but the accused haven’t even contacted their families, news agency IANS reported.

Three unknown assailants on April 15 killed gangster Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf in police custody while the duo was coming out of Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj after their medical.
