A speeding dumper truck collided with an auto-rickshaw on the Ajgain-Mohan road while attempting to overtake a motorcyclist. The accident resulted in the death of three passengers traveling in the auto-rickshaw, while five others sustained injuries.

Details Of the Incident

The auto-rickshaw driver was carrying seven passengers from Ajgain towards Mohan. Around 8:30 am on Saturday, near a petrol pump in Makuur village, the dumper truck—reportedly traveling at a speed of approximately 80 km per h—rammed head-on into the auto. The impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was completely mangled. According to villagers, the dumper was coming from the direction of Mohan. Following the head-on collision, all the passengers became trapped inside the wreckage.

Casualties And Rescue Operations

The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Puttilal Lodhi and 45-year-old Ramashankar, a resident of Maddukheda, Ajgain. An unidentified 40-year-old man also died in the crash. Five others, including the auto driver, were critically injured.

The driver of the dumper truck fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police arrived 20 minutes later, extricated the victims from the vehicle, and admitted them to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Nawabganj. They were subsequently referred to the District Hospital for further treatment. Traffic on the route remained disrupted for an hour during the rescue operation.

Police Statement

ASP Premchandra visited the site to take stock of the situation. He stated that a search operation is underway to apprehend the absconding dumper driver.
