In a bid to strengthen medical facilities in remote areas, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to run 15 Community Health Centres (CHCs) under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The proposal, presented by the Health Department, was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.

Under this arrangement, private healthcare service providers will be handed over CHCs on a 30-year contract through tenders. These centres will be developed into 30-bed First Referral Units (FRUs), equipped with doctors, staff, and necessary infrastructure. Villagers had been facing hardships due to a shortage of doctors and medical staff at the CHCs.

As per the plan, the service providers will offer free OPD, diagnostic facilities, patient admissions, and medicines. Payments will be released monthly through invoices generated under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’s electronic health record system. For patients with health insurance, any treatment cost exceeding prescribed limits will be covered at Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) rates.

The private operators will bear the expenses of setting up and running the 30-bed FRUs, including electricity, water, gas, and deployment of healthcare staff in line with prescribed norms. They will also be required to secure National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) and NABL accreditation within six months of operations.
