In a move aimed at ensuring clear and dispute-free voter lists ahead of upcoming elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has intensified its campaign for the revision of electoral rolls. For the first time, District Election Officers (DEOs) are receiving step-by-step physical training to prepare accurate and updated voter lists, with a focus on clear voter photographs and complete family entries.
After successful training sessions in 14 districts of Meerut and 23 districts of Varanasi, the third and final phase of the program will take place in Lucknow on Wednesday. The District Magistrates from the remaining 38 districts have been called to attend. The training will be conducted by Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa at the Auditorium of Awas Vikas Parishad Headquarters.
Key instructions during the session will include:
-Ensuring a maximum of 1,200 voters per polling booth
-Including all eligible family members in the voter list of each polling station
-Improving the gender ratio by identifying gaps in female voter registration
-Ensuring voter photographs are visible for easy identification during polling
The 38 districts participating in the final training include: Bijnor, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Badaun, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, and Pilibhit.

Officials say the aim is to eliminate errors and prevent voter complaints during the election process. With this comprehensive training initiative, the ECI expects to enhance the accuracy, transparency, and inclusivity of electoral rolls across Uttar Pradesh.
