In a major shift from previous years, students from classes 9 to 12 across Uttar Pradesh will receive their scholarships and fee reimbursements on October 2, significantly earlier than the traditional disbursal period, which usually begins in December. The decision was taken as part of an ongoing initiative to bring uniformity across scholarship schemes run by the Backward Class Welfare, Minority Welfare, and Social Welfare departments.
The move was finalised during a high-level meeting held at Bhaagidari Bhawan on Monday, where Minority Welfare Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge) Asim Arun, Minister of State for Backward Classes Welfare (Independent Charge) Narendra Kashyap, and Minister of State for Minority Welfare Danish Azad Ansari met with departmental officials.
As part of the reforms, the scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes will now operate in three phases, with a four-member committee to be formed for further streamlining and coordination among departments.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to remove discrepancies in eligibility criteria, income certificate requirements, and distribution timelines among the three departments. He also directed the creation of a modern, integrated digital portal to prevent fraud and ensure timely assistance to deserving students.
Officials noted that disparities currently exist in the implementation and standards of scholarship schemes across departments. The ministers emphasised the need for reform to ensure that economically weaker, backward, and minority students receive benefits promptly and without confusion.
Minister Asim Arun stated that the primary goal is to bring coherence and efficiency to all scholarship programmes so that students no longer face delays. Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that maximum benefits reach underprivileged children at the right time. Minister Narendra Kashyap added that the collective efforts of all three departments are underway to enhance the overall effectiveness of the scholarship system.
Students who do not receive benefits on October 2 will be included in subsequent disbursal rounds in the following months.
