After the successful implementation of initiatives like BC Sakhi, Vidyut Sakhi, Krishi Ajeevika Sakhi, Pashu Sakhi, and Surya Sakhi, the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) has now launched a new effort to empower rural women as Micro Udyam Sakhis (Micro Enterprise Facilitators).
Under this scheme, women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) will be trained in all aspects of micro-enterprise development — from setting up and operating businesses to marketing and product sales. Financial assistance, including bank loans, will also be facilitated to help them establish their enterprises.
According to the plan, the Mission aims to establish over 6.5 lakh micro enterprises across the state. The selection process is currently underway. In the first phase, an examination was conducted on June 19 in 39 districts. The second phase of the selection exam is scheduled for Wednesday in the remaining 24 districts.
A total of 13,064 women will be selected and trained using structured training modules. Mission Director Deepa Ranjan stated that each selected Micro Udyam Sakhi will not only become an entrepreneur herself but will also help guide and support 50 other women in setting up businesses. The initiative will involve close collaboration with Bank Sakhis to ensure the timely and smooth disbursement of loans.
Four Micro Udyam Sakhis will be appointed in every district initially. Over time, the model aims to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of women-led rural enterprises, contributing to both financial empowerment and rural economic growth.
Officials believe the scheme will replicate the success of previous livelihood programs, significantly boosting women’s financial independence and entrepreneurship in Uttar Pradesh.
