In a major step toward improving child health and nutrition, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday launched the fifth phase of its state-wide malnutrition eradication drive, Sambhavah 5.0, across 100 Anganwadi centres in every district.
The campaign aims to identify and treat severely malnourished children under the age of five and reduce stunting rates through focused nutritional interventions. The initiative was officially flagged off by Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition Minister Baby Rani Maurya on July 7.
As part of the campaign, all District Magistrates have been directed to appoint 100 nodal officers in their respective districts. These officers will be responsible for the intensive monitoring of Anganwadi centres, assessing the nutritional status of children and ensuring proper follow-up. The Directorate provided online training to the nodal officers on Monday.
The campaign began with nutritional identification and monitoring exercises conducted at Anganwadi centres across the state on Tuesday. Nodal officers gathered data on stunting and malnutrition trends, and their detailed reports will now be reviewed monthly during District Nutrition Committee meetings chaired by the DM.
