Uttar Pradesh News:  In a significant push to enhance the city’s road infrastructure, the Finance Expenditure Committee of the Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 35 crore for the construction of a four-lane highway between Lucknow and Etawah. Following a meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Finance Department cleared the proposal, allocating funds for land acquisition and primary construction. The highway project is a part of a broader infrastructure development plan worth Rs 5000 crore aimed at boosting connectivity and growth in Kanpur.

Akhandeshwar Prasad, Executive Engineer, PWD, said, “The Finance Expenditure Committee has given approval for the construction of Lucknow-Etawah Highway. This is the first approval given by the Finance Expenditure Committee in the proposals sent recently. The construction process will be taken forward after getting the budget.”

Earlier, the Lucknow-Etawah Highway was a link road. The authorities will now convert the link road into a four-lane highway to boost connectivity in Kanpur and surrounding areas. The construction is expected to start soon. Currently, heavy vehicles go to Etawah from Lucknow via Mohan, Bangarmau, Kakwan, Rasulabad, and Nanamau via Bilhaur.

As soon as the Lucknow-Etawah four-lane is open to the public, the pressure on GT Road will significantly decrease, as commuters will get an alternative route between Lucknow and Etawah. In addition to this, the highway will boost local trade, agricultural transport and industrial activities. However, during the monsoon season, heavy downpours lead to flooding in the Ganga River, which impacts traffic movement on the Lucknow-Etawah road. The Public Works Department (PWD) officials will construct a four-lane highway with an elevation to solve the problem.
