In a bid to provide warm homes to the homeless and travellers amid the severe cold weather, the Uttar Pradesh government has made preparations to provide night shelters with 20 beds each at the Rae Bareli railway station and bus station, as reported by Jagran.com.

These shelters are expected to provide cheap and durable accommodation, even if someone does not have a government-mandatory identification card. In the absence of an identification card, staff will take a photo of the person and keep a record of the person, so that if they are suspicious, they can be easily identified.

How Will These Night Shelters Be Regulated?

Special government staff have been assigned to operate the night shelters at both locations. Three staff members will be deployed at each night shelter on an eight-hour shift. The Municipal Corporation's Water Supply Department will also provide cleaning, mattresses, blankets, and drinking water.

When Will The Night Shelters Be Open To Public?

According to officials, quoted by Jagran.com, the arrangement will be opened from December to February, and can be extended if deemed necessary. Neeraj Kumar, junior engineer of the municipal water supply department, says that during the winter, a large number of passengers travel to and from the railway station and bus station at night.

For this reason, these temporary night shelters with 20 beds each are being constructed at the railway station and bus stops. He further said that, along with photographs of those passengers who do not have an ID, their mobile numbers will also be noted.
