UP News: A transgender was allegedly attacked and her clothes were ripped by a group of Kanwariyas in the late hours of Monday, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, who thought she was a thief. The incident happened around midnight in the vicinity of the Sihani Gate Police Station, according to the authorities.
“We rescued the person from the angry crowd and brought her to the police station. She was not a thief. It was because of some confusion and misunderstanding,” said Ravendra Gautam, Station House Officer, Sihani Gate.
In a purported video of the event that has gone viral on social media, the victim is being shown beaten by the Kanwariyas while the police attempt to calm the mob. The mob began to get more hostile, at which point the victim and the police were seen racing towards the police car, followed by the crowd.

“The argument was over closing the wine shop. We are investigating the matter further,” said Rajnish Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sahibabad.
Last Saturday, a few Kanwariyas raised an uproar after a car allegedly struck one of them in the Muradnagar neighbourhood, blocking the road, thrashing the driver, and vandalizing the vehicle, claiming that their Kanwar had been desecrated.
