The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to undertake a significant infrastructure project aimed at reducing traffic congestion on the national highway between Lucknow and Raebareli. The authority has proposed the construction of bypasses in Mohanlalganj and Bachhrawan, which are notorious for causing traffic jams and slowing down vehicle speeds.
Bypass On UP Highway Due To Traffic Congestion
The existing four-lane road has failed to keep pace with the increasing traffic volume, resulting in frequent congestion and slow-moving traffic. According to estimates, over 30,000 vehicles ply on this stretch daily, with numbers expected to rise further. The NHAI has identified the need for bypasses to improve traffic flow and reduce travel times.
Bypasses On UP Highway: Timeline
The NHAI has sent a comprehensive proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, outlining the plan to construct bypasses in Mohanlalganj and Bachhrawan. The project is expected to commence in March 2026, following the selection of a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR). The consultant will assess the most suitable route for the bypass, ensuring better connectivity and smooth traffic flow for decades to come.
Benefits Of The Project: To Increase Average Speed
The construction of bypasses is expected to improve traffic conditions, reducing congestion and travel times significantly. With the proposed bypasses, vehicles will be able to maintain a steady speed, eliminating the need to slow down or stop at intersections. This will not only enhance road safety but also reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions.
Currently, the average speed of vehicles on this stretch is around 50 km/h, which is expected to increase substantially once the bypasses are constructed. The project aims to provide a seamless driving experience, allowing vehicles to maintain a consistent speed and reducing the risk of accidents.
By constructing these bypasses, the NHAI aims to provide relief to commuters and improve the overall traffic infrastructure in the region. With the project expected to commence soon, residents and travellers can look forward to a smoother and more efficient journey between Lucknow and Raebareli.
