UP School Closed: Schools in Bulandshahr and Baghpat districts will remain closed on Wednesday, September 3, following heavy rainfall warnings in western Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have directed all educational institutions, from nursery to Class 12, to suspend classes for the day as a precautionary measure.
In Bulandshahr, Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Lakshmi Kant Pandey issued the closure order for all schools under various boards. District Magistrate Asmita Lal announced a similar directive for Baghpat, citing safety concerns due to continuous downpours.
Uttar Pradesh Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Lucknow centre has predicted heavy rain across more than 20 districts in Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours. The forecast includes very heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in districts such as Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly and Pilibhit, with wind speeds expected to reach 30–40 km/h. Moderate to heavy showers are also likely in areas including Kanpur, Etawah, Mainpuri, Rampur, Badaun, Unnao, Hardoi and Farrukhabad. Officials noted, however, that rainfall intensity may reduce after September 3, with humid conditions expected to follow.
Weather-Related School Closures Across States
The adverse weather has forced several states to extend school holidays. In Punjab, schools will stay closed until September 3 due to floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains warned private schools against defying the state’s orders.
In Kerala, schools are already closed for the Onam festival until September 7, but fresh IMD alerts have warned of heavy rain and strong winds in Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod from September 3–6.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also on high alert, with IMD warnings issued for coastal and central districts, though no blanket school closures have yet been announced.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana remain on watch, with local administrations likely to take decisions depending on ground conditions.
Delhi and the NCR, including Noida and Ghaziabad, are under orange and yellow alerts. While schools in several NCR districts are closed, no shutdown has been declared in the national capital so far.
