In Uttar Pradesh, the government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has completely transformed the educational system by implementing large-scale reforms in the primary and secondary education sectors. Through initiatives like 'Operation Kayakalp' and 'Project Alankar', council (Parishadiya) and secondary schools have been given a new form.
Launched in the year 2018, the main objective of 'Operation Kayakalp' was to equip council schools with all modern, safe, and advanced facilities. This campaign has been so successful that to date, the work of establishing approximately 97 percent of the fundamental facilities has been completed. Schools that once lacked basic necessities like toilets, drinking water, electricity, and furniture are today equipped with secure boundary walls, tiled toilets, attractive campuse and solar-powered lights. This transformation has also been praised by the NITI Aayog, which has described it as an inspirational model for the entire country.
In the same sequence, 'Project Alankar' is being run by the Secondary Education Department. Under this project, the work of improving the infrastructure of 2,295 schools based on 27 prescribed standards is in progress.

A New Era with 'Operation Kayakalp'
The Yogi government launched 'Operation Kayakalp' as a campaign to improve the condition of council schools, resulting in unprecedented improvements in the state. All schools now have arrangements for clean drinking water and separate clean toilets for boys, girls, and differently-abled children. Additionally, facilities like multiple handwashing stations, tiles in classrooms, modern blackboards, clean kitchens, freshly painted buildings, ramps and railings, uninterrupted electricity and water supply, sanitation, libraries, furniture and health-related amenities have been ensured in these schools.
Modernisation of Buildings through 'Project Alankar'
Similarly, the Secondary Education Department has undertaken extensive work on academic, co-curricular, and infrastructural facilities through 'Project Alankar'. Under the infrastructure development, the construction of a principal's room, a staff room, a drinking water facility, separate toilets for boys and girls, a boundary wall, and an office room has been ensured. Other modern facilities include equipping the schools with electricity connections, biometric attendance machines, CCTV cameras, rainwater harvesting systems, solar panels, firefighting equipment, and bicycle stands.
The Education System was Dilapidated Before 2017
If we look at the situation before 2017, the condition of most schools was extremely dilapidated. The buildings were in a state of disrepair, and students did not even have access to basic facilities. As a result, student attendance in schools was continuously declining, and the quality of education was being severely affected. In contrast, the Yogi government has placed education among its highest priorities. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has clarified that it is the paramount duty of the government to provide quality, equal, and inclusive education to children.

Today, these rural schools are not just government buildings but have become the most beautiful, secure, and well-equipped centers of their village council (Gram Sabha), which has further strengthened the trust of rural parents in them. This transformation in the field of education is not only changing the walls of the schools but is also shaping the future of the state.
