The Tourism Department has started work on a plan to develop 28 of the state's heritage properties as tourist destinations under the PPP model. These properties will be converted for tourists into heritage hotels or wellness centres without altering their identity or original structure.
Mukesh Meshram, Principal Secretary of the Tourism Department, stated that under the Chief Minister's Tourism Promotion Scheme, there is a plan to renovate the state's historic and old havelis (mansions), forts and palaces for development as heritage hotels. Nine properties have been selected for the first phase.
The hotels will be operated through fees collected from tourists. The sites to be developed under the first phase include Lucknow's Chhatar Manzil, Roshan-ud-Daula Kothi (mansion) and Kothi Gulistan-e-Iram; Chunar Fort in Mirzapur; Barsana Jal Mahal (water palace) in Mathura; Shukla Talab (pond) in Kanpur Dehat; and Tikait Rai Baradari (pavilion) in Bithoor.
Additionally, an old property in Prayagraj and the Mahmudabad Fort in Sitapur will also be developed as heritage hotels.
