Commuters on the Lucknow-Varanasi four-lane highway will soon experience relief from traffic congestion. Starting May 10, one lane of the Hanuman Ganj bypass is expected to open to traffic, easing the issues caused by the closure of the Pakrauli railway crossing.
The much-anticipated railway overbridge project, which began in 2015, is nearing completion. With the help of two cranes, one lane of the bridge has already been paved, and work on the remaining sections is progressing rapidly. The construction continues day and night under the supervision of railway and company engineers.
Currently, the eastern part of the bridge is being assembled over the railway line. While work slows down during the day due to high temperatures, it continues at night with the use of generators.
The construction company, Divya Infratech Limited, had originally requested an extension until March, but the then District Magistrate, Kritika Jyotsna, ordered that one lane be opened by January 31. Her transfer and congestion from the Kumbh Mela caused a delay of about a month. Previously, the four-lane construction company, GPL, had abandoned the bridge project, further delaying the bypass opening.
According to Nitin Kumar, Project Manager of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Varanasi, the project is now progressing well, and the company has been instructed to complete the bridge by May 10, after which traffic flow will be fully restored.
