Continuous heavy rains over the past three days in western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh have brought significant relief from the humid heat. Lucknow recorded 91.3 mm of rainfall in a single day — the highest in the state capital in the past six years.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Badaun, and adjoining areas on Tuesday. More than 30 districts, including Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, and Mainpuri, are also on alert for very heavy rains.

A lightning warning has been issued for over 40 districts, while heavy showers are also expected in 12 other districts. According to senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, both eastern and western UP are likely to witness heavy rainfall in August. However, the monsoon is expected to weaken from Thursday.

Agra remained cloudy throughout Monday, with drizzle starting in the afternoon and continuing till late at night. The maximum temperature was 30.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum 26.6 degrees Celsius, both below normal levels.

Humidity peaked at 95 per cent in the morning. Between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, the city recorded 0.3 mm of rainfall. The weather office has predicted cloudy skies and one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Tuesday.
