UP Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh and warned of rain in 29 other districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely in several areas.
According to senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, the activation of a Western Disturbance has shifted the monsoon line northwards, leading to heavy rainfall across the state, expected to continue till September 2.

An orange alert has been issued for the western and central districts on September 1, while the capital city Lucknow is under a yellow alert due to the possibility of moderate showers in some areas. Lucknow recorded 307.8 mm of rainfall in August, 52 percent above the monthly average of 202 mm. So far, the city has received 542.7 mm of rain in Monsoon 2025, about 5 percent higher than the normal 519.3 mm. The weather department has also predicted above-normal rainfall in September across central Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow.

In August, Bijnor in western Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall at 663.5 mm, which is 113 percent above normal, more than double the average. Meanwhile, eastern Uttar Pradesh received 417.9 mm of rainfall, about 53 percent above normal.
