Other family members, including the couple's children, supported the husband's account. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi told PTI that the body of Savita, the wife of Ashok Kumar, was found inside a suitcase at their home in Tilhar town.

According to Dwivedi, the woman's brother-in-law informed the police that she had allegedly died by suicide. However, when a police team arrived at the scene, they found her body hidden inside a suitcase.

The preliminary examination revealed marks around her neck, and the body had not yet begun to decompose, the Superintendent of Police said.

During questioning, Savita's husband claimed that she had committed suicide by hanging herself with her scarf. He also stated that, fearing action against him, he removed the body and placed it inside a suitcase, police said. He added that this version of events was corroborated by the couple's two children. However, the act of concealing the body in a suitcase raised suspicions, he said.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem, and an investigation is underway. Legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty, the SP added.

In a separate incident, A woman from UP and her lover have been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, who had returned from Dubai just ten days earlier. The victim's body parts were found inside a suitcase abandoned in a field, police confirmed on Sunday, April 21.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Naushad Ahmed, a resident of Bhatauli village. His identity was confirmed through an airline tag still attached to the suitcase containing his body, which was discovered by a farmer in Patkhauli village, about 55 kilometers from Ahmed's home.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Verma, when police first visited Naushad's residence, his wife, Razia, claimed he had gone out the previous night. However, the presence of bloodstains and another suitcase in the house raised suspicion. During further questioning, Razia reportedly confessed to the murder and implicated her nephew, Ruman, as her accomplice.

The incident took place around 2 am, according to the investigation. Razia, Ruman, and his friend Himanshu, accused of the crime, chopped Ahmed's body into two parts before putting it into the suitcase and transporting it to the remote field for disposal.

"Within six hours, our team traced the barcode on the airline tag and identified the victim," said ASP Verma. "Razia has been arrested, and the murder weapons, an axe, a chopper, and a pestle, have been recovered." Authorities are actively searching for the absconding suspects, Ruman and Himanshu.
