Shamli news: A 28-year-old man set himself ablaze on Monday in an attempt to die by suicide outside a police station in Sahmli district after a woman turned down his marriage proposal. The man, identified as Vinay, and the woman, a widow, were reportedly in love and had planned to get married.
However, upon being proposed to, the woman said no to him. Upset over the rejection, Vinay attempted suicide by setting himself on fire outside the women's police station, Superintended of Police, Sahmli, Abhishek, said.
Vinay reportedly sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Further investigation in the matter was going on.

Earlier, in October, a 30-year-old man died by suicide after a girl he was in love with, refused his marriage proposal in Chennai's Chengalpattu. The man was identified as Karthi and was employed with a private finance company.
Karthi reportedly proposed to a 24-year-old girl, also employed at the same company, but she refused his advances. Few days later the man reached out to the girl's family, asking for her hand, but was again met with rejection as the girl’s family refused to marry the two off. Angry over this, Karthi attempted to stab the girl, however, the girl's relative pushed him away and saved her. Subsequently Karthi collapsed to the ground as he had consumed something.
He was rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
