Uttar Pradesh Weather: Uttar Pradesh has been grappling with a combination of natural disasters, with floods, heavy rain and lightning strikes claiming several lives in recent days. On Wednesday, the state experienced a brief respite from the flooding, but however later was battered by lightning strikes. Across the eastern and central regions of Uttar Pradesh, the lightning storm has claimed over 47 fatalities.
Additionally, five more individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in the Mainpuri district, with several others suffering severe burn injuries. Many of the injured are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

UP Reports 52 Death From Lightning
The overall death toll from lightning alone has reached 52 in the state. The afternoon downpours in Varanasi, Azamgarh and Mirzapur provided some relief from humidity and heat. However, the lightning strikes claimed the lives of 11 people and left 17 others, including 16 women, with severe burns.
The Prayagraj, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi districts have been particularly hit by humidity, despite cloudy skies in the region for the past three days. 12 people lost their lives to lightning strikes in Pratapgarh alone.
Monsoon To Return By Today With Heavy Rain
Meanwhile, the Bundelkhand and Kanpur regions experienced brief spells of sunshine on Wednesday, but the respite from the rain was short-lived, as the humidity continued to plague the residents. Meteorologists have warned that the monsoon is expected to gain strength again from Thursday, with the potential for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in more than 40 districts, particularly in the Purvanchal region.
Flood-Related Incidents In State
The devastating floods have also claimed lives, with five people reported to have died in flood-related incidents in the Balrampur and Lakhimpur districts. The floodwaters have submerged more than 125 villages in the Lakhimpur district, leaving the Palia tehsil completely isolated from the district headquarters.
River Water Level Has Been Rising to Danger Level
The water levels of the Saryu, Ghaghra and Rapti rivers have risen dangerously, breaching the danger mark in several locations. In Balrampur, the Rapti river is 26 cm above the danger level, while in Gonda, the Ghaghra river has reached 55 cm above the danger mark. The Saryu river in Ayodhya has also risen 27 cm above the danger level.
The loss of life continues, with the drowning of a six-year-old boy in Maharajganj Terai and the recovery of a body of a resident of Lalia Veerpur village in Lakhimpur, who was swept away by the floodwaters.
