The 627-year-old Shri Ram Temple, located in Kashmiri Ganj, Khojwan, is set to be transformed into a grand new structure. Originally built in 1398 by Jagadguru Anantanand Maharaj, the first disciple of Shrimad Jagadguru Ramanandacharya, the temple has long been a center for Vedic and scriptural studies alongside worship and meditation of Lord Shri Ram. Despite facing challenges during the Mughal era, the temple was restored and continued to serve as a spiritual hub.
Now, under the guidance of the 23rd Peethadheeshwar of Divya Aradhana-Adhyayan Dham, Shrimad Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Swami Dr Ram Kamalacharya Vedanti Maharaj, the temple is set to be redeveloped into a G+4 structure spanning 50 x 165 square feet.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lay the foundation stone for this ambitious project on April 3. The temple has historically been a hub for Sanskrit scholarship. Notably, Goswami Tulsidas, the revered poet-saint, stayed here for six years under the tutelage of Shesh Sanatan Tripathi.
His guru, Narharidas, was a disciple of Anantanand. Many other Sanskrit scholars, including Ramchandra Paramhans, Nritya Gopal Das Maharaj, and Ramvilas Vedanti, have also been associated with the temple.
Shri Ram Temple has been a cornerstone of the Ramanandacharya tradition and has hosted spiritual luminaries such as Raidas, Kabir, Baba Keenaram, and Mata Anandmayi. During India’s struggle for independence, the temple served as a refuge for revolutionaries.
Notably, Subhash Chandra Bose stayed here for 15 days, and freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad also sought shelter within its sacred premises. With its rich historical significance and cultural legacy, the temple’s upcoming transformation marks a new chapter in its storied past.
