Gangster Abhishek Yadav, a resident of MustafabadPichwari in Chaubepur, was injured after being shot in the leg during an encounter with the Phulpur police late Saturday night. Following the incident, the police admitted him to a nearby government hospital. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol, one live cartridge, and an empty shell from his possession. The injured criminal has a criminal record with six cases registered against him in Chandauli and Varanasi.

The events leading to the encounter began on Friday night. Acting on a tip-off from an informant, Phulpur police set up a blockade near the Pindrai underpass and recovered six cattle from a pickup truck. While the police arrested two occupants of the vehicleDinesh Yadav and Santosh (alias Nathuni Yadav) from Saraiya UkthiAbhishek Yadav, who was accompanying them, managed to dodge the police and escape.

The arrested cattle smugglers identified the fugitive as Abhishek Yadav. The police immediately launched a manhunt, which led to the confrontation on Saturday night near Nagapur on Sindhora Road. When intercepted, the criminal opened fire on the police team. In self-defense, the police returned fire, striking the suspect in the right leg.

The police team involved in the operation included Station In-charge Praveen Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspectors Vijay Kumar Kushwaha, Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Ram Singh, Virendra Nath Pandey, Kalamuddin Ahmed, Amit Kumar Pandey, Munishankar Verma, Head Constable Anup Rai, and Constables Ashok Yadav, Anil Kumar Yadav, and Rupchand Saroj.
