As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dwells into the causes of its underwhelming performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, the mobilisation in the Uttar Pradesh unit of the saffron party clearly indicates all is not well and the high command is facing difficulty in keeping its flock together. The so-called party factions are holding vehement meetings in Delhi and Lucknow amid speculations of a major reshuffle in organisation and government.

UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Following the meeting Union Minister Amit Shah called on PM Modi to discuss the alleged rift in the state unit of the party.

This came a day after UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya met BJP chief JP Nadda in Delhi. If reports are to be believed, Maura has been at loggerheads with CM Yogi for quite sometime over a plethora of issues. His ‘organisation bigger than government’ remark added fuel to the speculations.

Separately, Yogi Adityanath held a brainstorming session with his top ministers to discuss the poll debacle in the state. He also met Governor Anandiben Patel later in the evening, to apparently discuss the forthcoming Assembly session.

Maurya, a giant OBC leader, fuelled the rift speculations with his speech on Sunday. He hailed party organisation as a bigger unit than the government. Later Maurya's office also laid out an X post in this regard. “The organisation is bigger than the government, the pain of the workers is my pain. No one is bigger than the organisation, the workers are the pride,” his office posted on X.

However, BJP leaders have repudiated factionalism within the party. When asked about the infighting, UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary said the party was united and preparing for the Assembly by-election.

Meanwhile, the Opposition has lapped up the issue taking a dig at the apparent factionalism. Samajwadi Party chief and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, in a cryptic post, extended a monsoon offer to form a fresh government in the state. “Monsoon Offer: Bring hundred, form the government!” he posted on X.

Notably, Yadav had at times asked disgruntled BJP leaders to come with 100 MLAs and form a government in the state with SP support.
