Dehradun Airport has launched trials of the Digi Yatra app, allowing passengers to enter the terminal through facial recognition, eliminating the need for physical ID checks and saving time. The trial started on Wednesday with Air India passengers.

Joint General Manager Nitin Kadyan said the trial will continue for some time and will be formally inaugurated after the Ministry gives final approval. Acting Director Deepak Chamoli, Airport Manager Vaibhav Bansal, Vipin Yadav, and KC Srivastava were present during the launch.

The Digi Yatra app uses Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology for paperless and contactless travel. Passengers link their Aadhaar, upload a selfie, and a boarding pass on the app.

At the airport, their face becomes their travel token:

  • The boarding pass QR code is scanned at the e-gate.
  • FRS verifies identity and travel documents.
  • Once verified, the gate opens, giving access to security checks and boarding.
