The onset of winter has seen a sharp increase in road accidents in the region. Over a span of just 21 days in November, eight accidents occurred, resulting in the loss of nine lives and numerous injuries.
Causes And Trends
The cold weather has become a significant factor, with driver drowsiness contributing to several crashes. Out of the eight reported accidents, six occurred at night. This is largely due to drivers travelling overnight to transport agricultural produce to markets (mandis) in other states. The Haripur Koti Minas State Highway has been particularly affected, witnessing two loader vehicle accidents within a ten-day period.
