In a major relief for patients and students, https://www.thedailyjagran.com/delhi/cm-rekha-gupta-flags-off-hotline-van-boosts-roads-water-and-education-projects-across-delhi-24046397The recruitment comes after a prolonged shortage of doctors that had affected patient care and medical education at the hospital.

The state government had earlier imposed a ban on contractual, outsourced, daily wage, part-time, fixed-salary, and ad-hoc appointments, which severely impacted the health and medical education departments.

Due to the shortage, surgery, radiology, burn unit, and super-speciality departments were being managed by junior and senior residents and postgraduate students. MBBS classes were also being taught by postgraduates, while patient treatment suffered in several critical areas.

The upcoming recruitment will include 18 posts for Professors, 41 for Associate Professors, and 66 for Assistant Professors. Key positions in super-speciality departments, Cardiology, Nephrology, Neuro-Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Urology, will be filled, along with eight posts in Radio-Diagnosis and three in the Burn Unit and Anaesthesia.

College Principal Dr Geeta Jain stated, “This recruitment will help get the operations of both the hospital and the college back on track. We aim to appoint qualified doctors in most of the posts so that patients can receive better facilities and students can learn from experienced faculty.”

The recruitment is particularly significant for patients, who have faced long waits for treatment due to staff shortages. Currently, the radiology department operates with just one doctor on an outsourced basis, and the burn unit has lacked a specialist for critically ill patients. Students, too, will benefit as MBBS classes will now be handled by qualified professors and associate professors instead of postgraduate students.

In recent years, outsourcing has been a major source of doctors and support staff, including super-specialists. The ban on outsourcing increased reliance on permanent recruitment, which caused the process at Doon Medical College to be delayed for four months. The new recruitment drive is expected to significantly improve both patient care and academic services at the college.
