Air connectivity from Pithoragarh’s Naini Saini airport to other states is set to improve, with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) now poised to take over its operations.
The Uttarakhand government has informed the cabinet that an agreement between the state and the AAI, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on State Foundation Day, has been finalised.

Located in the frontier district of Pithoragarh, which shares borders with China and Nepal, the airport holds significant strategic importance. While it was initially considered for handover to the Army, and later operated by the state government, its management will now be transferred to the AAI.
Naini Saini airport spans 70 acres, and the AAI’s involvement is expected to pave the way for enhanced interstate air services, improved infrastructure, and stronger strategic preparedness.
