The Uttarakhand Transport Department is set to crack down on e-commerce companies using private two-wheeled vehicles for the delivery of food and other materials. The RTO will first issue them notices, after which the establishments, along with the two-wheeled vehicles, will be seized.
Additionally, the RTO will also seek the assistance of the Police Department for the verification of vehicle drivers. According to the Motor Vehicles Act, no establishment can use private vehicles for commercial purposes. However, there are many e-commerce companies in the city that are doing so.
The drivers of the two-wheeled delivery vehicles often do not have identity cards, nor are they verified by the establishments. This is resulting in a loss of revenue for the government, and there are also concerns about activities such as drug supply.
RTO Administration Sandeep Saini stated that a permit is issued by the Transport Department for any vehicle to be used for commercial purposes. Using private vehicles for commercial use is a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.
