New York City witnessed a possible hate crime against an Asian family of four, including two minors, on August 3 on a subway train. The incident occurred on an F train in Greenwich Village when the Young family was visiting from Nevada, as per police. Now, the Hate Crimes Task Force of the NYPD is investigating the matter and are looking for the three teen girls who threw ‘anti-ethnic references’ at the family and later assaulted them, reported CBS News.

The incident came to light after a video of three girls assaulting the family surfaced on social media. The viral video was recorded by a third party, Joanna Lin, who couldn't just watch the family getting harassed. The clip was shared on Lin’s Instagram handle.

The incident began when one of the three girls started insulting and pointing fingers at the family, Sue Young, the woman in the family, was quoted as saying to CBS News.

Taking note of the matter, Lin started to record the entire thing from a distance. Soon, the woman was caught recording, which resulted in one of the teens assaulting her. "She ran over, grabbed me by the hair, threw me on the ground and started punching me several times," Lin was quoted as saying. Seeing Lin getting assaulted, Young rushed to help her and pushed the attacker out of the way, after which the girl attacked Young.

"My glasses got broken. I've had headache for a couple of days now because my hair was pulled and so my scalp was very tender," Young was quoted as saying.

In the end, other passengers rushed in to help the victims and everyone deboarded the train at the next station. The incident has left many shocked while the victims are seeking justice. The matter is being investigated, and the police have also issued hotline numbers on which people can submit their tips or any kind of information. The police are searching for the teen girls who were responsible for the assault.
