Same-Sex Couple Wedding Viral Video: A California wedding video is going viral for showing an same-sex couple celebrating their love through traditional Hindu customs. Tiya and Carol, both in stunning lehengas, walk down the aisle with their parents, exchange garlands, perform the pheras, take part in a puja and seek blessings by touching elders’ feet. The celebration ends with a lively reception dance, capturing hearts and sparking conversation online.

While many praised the couple for blending culture and love, others criticised them, saying it disrespected Hindu traditions. The video on X carried the note: “I’m all for same sex marriage, but I’m yet to see a nikah done between 2 women or 2 men. Why do Hindu traditional values need to be bent for it? Just do a court marriage and move on. This is just mocking."

This discussion comes amid larger debates about same-sex marriage in India. Earlier in 2023, hopes rose for legal recognition, but the Supreme Court rejected the petition. Instead, it set up a panel to explore granting legal rights and benefits to LGBTQ+ couples.

The post shared on X (Formerly Twitter) by the handle '@wokeflix_' a few days ago received more than one million views from users. One user wrote, “Marriage can only be between a male and a female. The word MARRIAGE is exclusively for a binding relationship between two separate genders. This stupidity has never happened in the past thousands of years. I call it good friendship or whatever, but it’s definitely not marriage."

"2 men's lives were saved. BTW, who files a Fake dowry case on whom & takes alimony if divorce," a second user asked. "I am just thinking out loud that maybe there are more Gays in Hindu culture compared to other cultures, that's why you don't get to see same sex marriages in other cultures," wrote a third user.

Not all were against the video; some were supporting the viral video. "This is not bending any rules. Nowhere in Hinduism is it written that 2 women cannot marry in the Vedic style, unlike others who call it a sin and go for beheading. Hinduism is a great religion, not a man-made list of dos and don'ts," added a fourth user. "You can leave Hinduism if you are so disappointed with it," added another user.
