2024 is here and just like that people have found a new challenge headfirst for the very first month; January. Gone are the days when people only worried about the ‘No Nut November’ challenge, because a new one is in the town and the internet cannot stop talking about it- Dry January. So, what is Dry January and how can you participate in it?
What is Dry January?
Dry January, which is pretty much self-explanatory by the name itself, is more like a healthy New Year resolution that people are taking, where they will have to avoid alcohol for the entire month of January. Yes, starting January 01, to January 31, participants of the Dry January challenge will maintain a good distance from alcohol and other alcoholic beverages and foods for 31 days into the new year.
Where did it come from?
Believe it or not, the challenge, which began to trend only now, was coined almost a decade ago. The Dry January challenge was introduced by Alcohol Change UK, where they started it as a campaign. Alcohol Change UK is a British charity and advocacy group. Meanwhile, their goal, as per their website, with this challenge is quite commendable and a much-needed one- to reduce harm caused by alcohol.
How are people reacting to this challenge?
Taking to the internet, people began to share their views on the new trend. Some loved the idea and expressed their support for Dry January, considering the fact that it will only benefit the health of people, while others were a bit critical about it as they expressed their takes in the form of memes and jokes. Some also cracked jokes on the trend.

“If you’re taking on #DryJanuary or even thinking of a bigger, longer term lifestyle change, then just back yourself and embrace the challenge. I’m a couple of days shy of 4 years sober now. It’s a dramatic and positive change that gives you your life back,” added next.
