An old picture of students giving an exam at the IIT Kharagpur went viral on social media after people were asked to guess the subject and the institution. The picture was from the 1950s and left the netizens guessing the answers. The image was shared on the internet and instantly went viral. Most people dubbed it an Engineering drawing exam, while some netizens were able to guess it correctly. The IIT, or the Indian Institute of Technology is one of the most hailed institutes in the country. IIT is one of the toughest institutions to crack, and students often prepare from a young age and study for years before attempting its entrance exam. There are many IITs across the country and they are under the Union Education Ministry. IIT is governed under the Institutes of Technology Act, of 1961.

The photo was shared on social media site X (formerly Twitter) by the handle ‘indianhistorypics’. The post was captioned, “Guess The Exam? Only Exam Where Open Book Is of No Use Photo - 1950s.”

In the pictures, three students were seen attending an exam. The black and white picture looked old. The students were seen with stencils and scales as they gave the exam. 

In another post, the answers were posted along with the same picture. “1950s Name of This Exam? Even Parchi, Chit Or Open Book Is of No Use While Solving This Paper Photo Is of IIT Kharagpur,” the post read.

The picture went viral as people were left amused with such an old picture of the popular IIT. The post’s comment section was flooded with people guessing the subject that the students were attending. The post was shared on September 05 and pulled 302.9K views from people.

Taking to the comment section, the netizens shared their views. “Machine drawing or Machine engineering,” a user wrote. “Engineering drawing .. one of the subjects everyone has to take in 1st and 2nd year of Engg!!” commented a second person.  "I remember this exam When I took it. I didn't know what to draw, messed up the first try, and failed the exam. But next semester, I tried again and passed,” recalled a third netizen. “Graphics/Architecture,” added a fourth. “Engineering drawing! This is from IIT kharagpur... My mates are scared for their lives,” joined a fifth person. “The exam you're referring to is likely the 'Bar Exam' for becoming a licensed attorney. It's known for being incredibly challenging and not allowing open books or reference materials,” wrote a sixth. “ENGINEERING DRAWING Photo Is of IIT Kharagpur,” added a seventh.
