Viral Video: It’s no more a rare fact that most Indians prefer to get their medical checkups done in India itself, to the point where even NRIs take a trip back home just to get services like dental, routine checkups, and whatnot, done here. Apart from the excellent service and commendable professionals, the comparatively lower cost of medical assistance in India, has a huge role to play in the above. Heightening something similar, a US woman’s video went viral, who was seemingly blown away by the ‘cheap’ healthcare facilities in India.
The woman, taking to social media, narrated an incident that led her to realise India’s ‘convenient’ healthcare system. While on her trip to India, her husband fell ill in Gujarat, which compelled the duo to get some tests done. Keeping in mind the healthcare costs in the UK and the US, the woman was worried about the ‘wallet damage’ that the duo was to receive. However, they were in for a shock when they realised that not only was the appointment fast and convenient, but also that it only cost them USD 14 (Rs 1,100).
The video went viral in an instant on social media. However, as the clip began to do rounds, disagreeing desis had a contradicting take on the matter. Calling it ‘cheaper’ for foreigners, they pointed out that the system was still pretty much ‘unaffordable’ for Indians themselves.
The video was shared on Instagram, by the handle ‘UNSTUK with Mac & Keen’. The post was captioned, “I guess this is how India keeps 1.4 billion people alive!” The video was shared two days ago and pulled 201K likes from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “This is not talked about enough! The Indian Health Care system is the freakin best,” a user said. “You guys know that this is private urban healthcare, not government healthcare in India right? It's cheap by international standards but completely inaccessible to a vast majority of the country's population who don't have access to healthcare at all,” added another.
“Indian healthcare for those who have money is phenomenal. Indian healthcare for those who live below the poverty line is abysmal,” added a second person. “There is a reason all my friends from India go back to India to get their root canals, new glasses, contacts, and annual checkups. I’m considering going to the dentist with my bf when we go in November,” added another.
