London-Based Indian Woman Viral Post: “Don’t come,” warns Janhavi Jain, an Indian woman living in London, as her social media post about studying in the UK grabs massive attention online.
Janhavi, a marketing professional, recently took to X to share her honest opinion about pursuing a master’s degree in the UK. Her post has sparked a big conversation on the internet, especially among students dreaming of studying abroad. Based on her own experience, she shared how difficult it is for international students to find a job after completing their studies in the UK. She revealed that most of her batchmates weren’t as fortunate. According to her, many had to return to India without any job offers.
She wrote, “I have tons of people text me about coming to the UK for a master’s. I will tell you — don’t come. 90% of my batch had to go back because there are no jobs. Unless you have money to throw away, don’t consider it.” She also pointed out a new UK government rule, adding, “In today’s news, the UK government has extended the residency requirement for settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) from five to ten years for most migrants.”
Her post has stirred mixed reactions, with some supporting her concerns while others believe every student’s journey is different.

The only work I managed to get after completing my PG (that too on a scholarship) was door-to-door fundraising and dropping leaflets! Did it for over a year just to survive and returned after the visa expired," a second user added.

"This is absolutely true. I can vouch for @janwhyy words. Even if there are few jobs, they are reserved only for white people. I have seen students getting stuck after taking an exorbitant loan, selling gold to study in the UK. This country is also racist to the core. People are very bad," added a third user. "Were there ever any jobs in the UK? This seems like a post, like when I went there,e it was fine, but now do not come. It was always like this, probably for the last 10 years," a fourth user added. "I sensed this in 2008, that's why I left the UK and settled in India," added another user.
