Viral Video: Women often have to think about their safety in ways men don’t, even in everyday situations like choosing a seat on a flight. A recent viral video has highlighted this issue, showing how something as simple as avoiding the middle seat can reflect deeper concerns about security.
A viral video shared by a man starts with him stating, “Middle seats on flights are low status. And it’s not because they are cheap.” He then shares an incident where a female friend chose to pay 700 bucks extra for an aisle seat instead of taking a free middle seat. When he asked why, she explained that it made her feel safer. He adds, “For me, a middle seat is just uncomfortable, but for her, it’s the risk of being stuck between two men for two hours.”
He further questions, “When I am paying extra for a seat, I am paying for comfort, but a girl pays for safety? More comfort for more money makes sense, but should there be a price for more safety? Taking a flight is one of the most premium services in the world, but yet half the population still has to calculate their safety? And that’s when you realize the privilege of being a man in this country.” His words have sparked a debate online, making people reflect on the hidden struggles women face daily.

The viral video was shared on Instagram by the user 'youcancallmearyyy' with the caption, "True cost of a middle seat is hidden." Posted just a few hours ago, the video has already gained 37K views from social media users. Many viewers quickly engaged in the comment section, sharing their thoughts and reactions to the discussion.
One user commented, "There is always a price for more safety. Only booking Premier Ubers, choosing trackable cabs instead of public transport after sunset, selecting certain Airbnbs and hotels when traveling as an all-girls group—every detail of a trip without a male presence is carefully planned. The higher cost of safety for solo women and groups is so normal that we don’t even notice it until someone points it out. This is a wonderful message and question to ask." Another user added, "Being a woman influences every decision and choice you make every single day since you're about three years old."
"Oh my god! The algorithm!! I just had a flight today, which I booked last minute and got a middle seat between two uncles, and this is exactly what I was thinking. Thank god the uncles were sweet and exchanged the seat or I would just not move during the entire flight," added a third user. I almost always use my neck pillow to put it on my side. Because there is no concept of space. Men (Not all) usually don't care there is a woman beside them and sit as if they paid for mine too," added another user.
