Despite India’s ‘toxic work culture’ getting exposed and other toxic practices stealing the ‘spotlight’ for all the wrong reasons in the last few months, yet another incident came to light, which left many triggered over the country's poor work environment and misused Labour Laws. Taking to his LinkedIn handle, a man shared about an incident, where his manager asked him to flag another employee as an ‘Attrition Risk’. Believe it or not, the reason behind this decision was that the said employee ‘recently’ began to leave work on time, which was 6:30 PM. As soon as the post was shared, it went viral and only worsened India’s stand on ‘healthy work culture’.
The post was shared on LinkedIn, by the handle ‘Sumit Agrawal’. The post read, “When an employee started leaving work at 6.30 pm, my manager asked me to flag him as an attrition risk. I thought this surely must be some crazy predictive analysis stuff and asked him about it.”
Check out the viral post:
The post was quick to draw reactions from people after it was shared. Most people called the manager ‘toxic’, while the rest dubbed such unfortunate incidents ‘common’ in a work environment.
Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Managers should be regularly evaluated on their ability to plan work, manage resource allocation, and handle behavioral aspects within their teams,” a user said. “What time is he starting if he leaves at 6:30 pm? In a lot of countries, that is ridiculously late,” added another.
“It all depends on the CULTURE at the workplace. How many managers give higher ratings to those who deliver SAME(if not better) results, compared to those who work long hours and are available, after work hours?” asked another. “Then what time are you guys clocking out from work if 06:30 pm is considered early?” asked another.
