The Miss Universe Organization decided to cut ties with its Indonesia franchise soon after last week’s sexual harassment allegations against Miss Universe Indonesia organisers came to light. Taking to its official X handle (formerly Twitter), the organisation shared the decision with the people. “In light of what we have learned took place at Miss Universe Indonesia, it has become clear that this franchise has not lived up to our brand standards,” read the post.
The decision came after the reports of contestants being allegedly sexually harassed came forward. Reportedly, six contestants of the Indonesia pageant accused the organisers of asking them to conduct a ‘topless’ body check. A complaint was filed with the police on the same matter.

The organisation is now evaluating its current franchise agreement and policies so that it can prevent the occurrence of such instances in the future. The organisation also apologised to the victims and appreciated their bravery. “To the women who came forward from the Indonesia pageant- we are sorry that this was experience with our organization. We appreciate your bravery in speaking out, and we pledge to do better in the future,” the apology read.
Meanwhile, the Malaysia edition has also been reportedly cancelled. The edition is hosted by Indonesia's PT Capella Swastika Karya. Poppy Capella, the national director of Capella Swastika, has denied involvement in the harassment allegations.
