Humanity might have cracked the ‘door delivery’ code with multiple online delivery and cab services apps, but what even is the point of such achievements if ‘creative’ online scams have turned such provisions into rather a hassle. Posing similar concerns at a much smaller level, an incident came forward, which left the internet questioning the ‘positives’ of the online cab system and its ‘comforts’. A video was shared on social media, where two girls were confronting their Uber auto driver over not entering the OTP. As per how the driver responded, he seemingly wanted to provide the service without involving the app, as that would generate more fare for him.
The video went viral in an instant and left people questioning the increasing number of such scams and the ‘ease’ of travelling through online apps. Most urged riders to never cancel a ride if the driver asks to, as this can give them a chance to scam the passenger, while the rest pointed out the threat to safety in such scams.
The video was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Ghar ke kalesh’. The post was captioned, “New Cab Scam.” The video was shared today and pulled 82K views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “As far as I understood, the driver wants passengers to cancel the ride and then he will drop them at their location so that he doesn't have to pay OLA/UBER their commission. But the passengers must not indulge in such activities for the sake of 30-40 rupees, especially at night,” a user said.
“NEVER DO THIS! They will ask you to CANCEL, and when you accept his DEMAND, then he will ask you more, once you reach your destination. Although if you are LOCAL, you can fight for your right fare, but never try this when you are OUTSIDER,” added another. “These days such scams are everywhere…But online scams are increasing and there should be a solution,” added another.
