A COUPLE in the United States, Andrew and Carolyn, broke an over a century-long record in their family when they welcomed their girl child. It was after 138 years that a girl was born in their family.
According to a report by the People, Carolyn told Good Morning America that she was shocked when she was told that no girl child had been born in the family since 1885.
The couple, who already had a four-year-old boy recalled the first time they got to know that they were to welcome a girl. It was at a gender-reveal party in September. Everyone at the party was given special cookies with either pink or blue frosting.
"We kept it a secret to ourselves as well," Andrew told GMA. "So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the centre of the cookies."
Following the countdown, everyone took a bite of their cookies at the same time and saw a pink frosting inside. "Everyone was just screaming and jumping in disbelief," Carolyn told WZZM 13.
The baby was also special for the family because, reportedly, Carolyn suffered two miscarriages. "We honestly didn't care if we were having a boy or girl at that point," she told GMA. "We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby," she added.
Andrew also mentioned that they really found it hard to "come up with a name" because they had never thought of a girl name before.
The delighted couple welcomed the baby girl on March 17 — St. Patrick's Day—bringing happiness to the family. Carolyn said that the birth of the girl was "even more special" because their daughter was "worth the wait and all the struggles."
