Kabosu, The Shiba Inu Dog Dies: Waking up to a sad news, admirers of the popular Japanese Shiba Inu, Kabosu the viral doge meme dog, were left heartbroken after learning about the fur ball passing away at the age of 18. The news was announced today, May 24, on the Shiba Inu’s social media page. The post understandably went viral and ended up creating a wave of shock among fans.
For those unaware, the cutie became a hit more than a decade ago, when a hilariously adorable photo of the dog seemingly 'side-eyeing’ went viral. So much so, that it further became an iconic meme after a cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE), was created in 2013, taking inspiration from the said viral picture. Reportedly, the same picture that eventually ended up breaking the internet was actually taken back in 2010.
As soon as the news made it into headlines, fans began to bid emotional goodbye to the furry beauty.
The announcement was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), on the handle of the furry one, ‘kabosumama’. The post was captioned, “Kabocha this morning, I fell into a deep sleep. She passed away gently as if she was sleeping while I stroked her. To everyone who loved Kabochan, thank you for all this time.”

The post was shared today and already pulled 506K views from admirers. Taking to the internet, people shared their take.
