Viral Video: In the last few months, people have increasingly started resorting to public thrashing with the aim of teaching a lesson to miscreants. And this ‘form of punishment’ is especially getting popular against harassers or eve teasers. Adding another incident to the list, a video from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur was shared on social media, which went viral almost immediately. The video showed a crowd ruthlessly beating up a man with slippers, allegedly for eve-teasing a woman. The victim was also seen in the clip, evidently furious, who had a slipper in her hand as she continued to thrash the harasser amid a few people trying to stop her. As per the post, the incident happened in Kanpur’s Kakadeo police station area. The date of the matter could not be confirmed.

The UP video, after getting shared, went viral and received heavy reactions from people. Most found the punishment justified and supported the public thrashing, while a few advocated for the man’s safety. Some also suggested handing the man over to the police.

The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘M_Kashyap_KD’. The post was captioned, “#Kanpur Teasing a woman proved costly for the young man. Women beat a young man with slippers in public, the video of the beating went viral on social media, the video is said to be of the double culvert of Kakadeo police station area.” The video was shared yesterday and pulled many views from people.

Taking to the internet, people shared their take. “Well done. And the one who comes in between and tries to save it also should have received 2-4 slippers. Now his procession should have been taken out till his house so that his family members could also know what a low mentality he has,” a user said.

“Is it acceptable for a man to beat up a woman like this on accusation of eve teasing etc?” added a second person. “Glad he got some lessons,” added a third person. “Good job ..belt treatment was needed,” added another. “The brand ambassador of the campaign ‘Beti Padhao and Beti Bachao’,” wrote another.
