Iran Crisis: Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was announced as the new Supreme Leader of Iran following the death of his father and former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli attacks on February 28. While his appointment has shut the reports suggesting a regime change in Tehran temporarily, Mojtaba is yet to appear before the supporters. Apart from this, he is yet to release a video message or a written statement, leading to speculation about his whereabouts.
As per the reports in the Iranian media, the newly appointed supreme leader possibly got injured in the ongoing war with the US and Israel. While there has been no solid update on his health, the local media has referred to him as "Jaanbaz of Ramadan" (injured war veteran). While the reports also suggest that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei did not want to appoint his son to the top post, the supporters of the regime welcomed the move.

Earlier last week, US President Donald Trump had stated that he must have a say in the appointment of the new supreme leader. However, a video was portrayed at the historic Valiasr Square, showing the transfer of the power to Mojtaba Khamenei. Along with this, a rally was organised in Tehran on Tuesday to demonstrate the support for the new leader amid the crisis.
As per a Fox News Digital report, the 56-year-old cleric is being protected by NOPO, Iran's black-clad Counterterrorism Special Force, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to eliminate the new supreme leader of Iran.
Who Is Mojtaba Khamenei?
Mojtaba is well connected to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He also served in the Iranian armed forces during the Iran-Iraq War. His father reportedly did not want Mojtaba to take the post, as a father-son succession is not welcomed in the Shiite Muslim clerical establishment. While his exact net worth has not been disclosed, as per a Bloomberg report, he is believed to be a multi-millionaire, with properties in Western nations.
